Deuxième album solo de George Michael, Listen Without Prejudice, vol.1 est sorti en 1990. Il s'ouvre avec un slow en forme de prière, Praying for Time : l'esprit du gospel plane indéniablement dans ce morceau. Vient ensuite Freedom , plus rythmé, très entraînant, avec des accents mélangeant soul music et funk. On connaît l'amour que George Michael porte aux musiques noires . Rien d'étonnant, donc, à voir figurer dans l'album une reprise d'une de ses idoles Stevie Wonder, avec They Won't Go When I Go , en version minimaliste piano/voix. Là encore le gospel imprègne l'interprétation du morceau, avec notamment les chours que George Michael a fait lui-même sur plusieurs pistes, en re-recording...
